Katie Elevitch is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, producer and bandleader who plays and composes on guitar, piano and drums.

The intersection and interrelatedness of visual and sonic/performed art has always intrigued and inspired Katie and stems from her childhood through college age participation in all forms of theater.

Kate's current paintings (2006-2009) explore grief and relationship in the context of a very special place: A small cottage perched on ancient palisades rock outcroppings in the lower Hudson Valley, NY overlooking the Hudson River where Noel Coward and Orson Welles once lived. Katie moved there after the sudden death of her father in late 2006.

Making music played a part in these works, their in-process states displayed around the living room where, in January 2007, Katie and her band recorded live "Kindling for the Fire", Katie's sophomore album.

Images of Katie's grief and the natural world - painted via words and sounds - linger in the title track which was completely improvised with the band in the moment - the Hudson River, the unfinished paintings, and the historic cottage soon to be torn down for new construction - as collaborators.

Hear Katie perform on the last Saturday of each month at M'Sonic Sessions in the Brooklyn Masonic Temple, a monthly performance/art salon she curates/hosts where local musicians, artists and other creatives gather for artistic 'off-line' community collaboration, inspiration and experimentation.
